Anime Shop Simulator card battles
Deck building, city/sky/grass types from playtests, table-versus-register staffing, and the 1.4.5 battle bugs.
The in-game TCG is not a menu overlay you click from the pause screen. In the Steam demo (app 3444070, playable since 19 February 2026) you buy a game table, fill a deck from cards you ripped or kept, and then duel — customers, friends, or whoever the current build will sit across from you. Steam copy is blunt: unbox boosters, keep or sell rares, and fight in PvP. The full Windows game is still upcoming on 11 September 2026. Treat every type name, deck size, and timer on this page as demo-era until 1.0 retunes the rules.
This page is the fight. Pack ordering, keep-versus-sell, and display stands live on TCG cards. If you have not licensed a card line yet, you do not have a battle problem; you have a stock problem.
Unlock the table before you theory-craft
Demo playthroughs that try to “finish the slice” keep hitting the same sequence: last licenses, missing SKUs on the shelf, then the game table as a furniture buy. Place it off the inbound aisle — the same flex rectangle you would use for a signing. A table in the queue is a bottleneck with extra animations.
You cannot duel with an empty binder. Keep a sealed facing for sale, then rip overflow in the stockroom. Demo footage shows players stuffing nine cards into a deck builder, reading lines like “immune to counter / shield blocks and damage,” and then walking to the table. That nine-card fill is a playtest snapshot, not a promise that 1.0 uses the same count.
If you licensed a card set and then spent the rest of the till on the table, guests will still want product on the pegs. Buy the table after the card bay has a facing. Angry customers over an empty licensed line are a shop issue, not a rules issue.
Build a deck from kept cards, not from the last box
Every rare is still a fork: display, sale, or playable slot. First copy can be identity. Second copy is payroll — unless you are one card short of a type you actually need at the table. Do not crack the last sealed box “for one more grass.” That sentence has bankrupted more demo shops than any NPC duel.
A workable build habit:
- Keep one copy of a card you understand (heal, ice, a type you are missing).
- Sell duplicates unless the till is already healthy and the display is incomplete.
- Put bulk in a cheap singles box, not back into a sealed slot.
- Rebuild the deck in a lull, not while a guest is waiting for change.
Demo recordings mention healing, ice, and immunity-style text on individual cards. Those effects are flavor you learn by hovering, not a competitive tier list. Do not refuse to sell a holographic because a YouTuber called it “meta” after two matches.
Types: city, sky, grass (demo-era labels)
Playtests and demo duels talk about city, sky, and grass as the type triangle. Label that as demo-era. One More Time can rename, add, or drop types before 11 September 2026. This wiki will not invent a fourth type to look complete.
What public sessions actually showed:
- The UI can highlight which of your cards is better against the current enemy type.
- Grass came up as an answer to a matchup the player did not have city for.
- Sky sits in the same three-way as city and grass in playtest talk.
- Matches can be timed. If you stall reading text, the clock will play for you.
Use type advantage the way a cashier uses a numpad: glance, pick the obvious better card, commit. You do not have a sideboard. You have a shop that is still open.
If the full game plugs this minigame into events as a tournament bracket, the same triangle should still be the first thing you teach a friend. Until that calendar exists, treat types as a reason to keep one of each, not as a reason to empty the booster bay.
Fight customers, then fight players
The table talks to two audiences.
Customers / NPC duels are a shop toy. They pull you off the floor. Win or lose, you still have to scan the next guest. Demo players have walked into a match, died on the first pass, rebuilt, and won on a heal — then immediately had to throw cardboard away. That is the intended texture: a card shop that also plays cards, not a stadium with a register glued on.
Player duels are the co-op pitch. Steam says you can manage the shop together or play a TCG mini game versus each other. House rule: two can play, two must still be a shop, unless it is closing time. If you only have two humans, skip the match until the rush dies. PvP is a break activity for whoever is not on till, not a fifth job that eats the other four.
Do not bet the last sealed case on a friendly. Prize economy, if the game gives you one later, should be a duplicate rare, not the only copy that makes your display make sense.
Table versus register staffing
The table is furniture. The register is the shop. If you abandon the drawer for a duel, the queue becomes a museum audio log.
Solo: pre-stock, start a short match only when the line is empty, concede or pause if a guest walks in. The demo’s lack of hired staff makes this brutal; that is not you being bad at the game.
Two players: P1 stays on scan and numpad (see shop controls). P2 may duel. Swap at a lull, not mid-ticket.
Three or four: name the roles on co-op roles before anyone sits. Register never duels first. Restock does not sit down while a facing is air. Events/finance owns the table placement so it is not in the inbound lane.
Leave-table animation exists for a reason. HotFix 1.4.5 had to fix players who could not exit a battle and a leave-table animation that misbehaved. If you mash interact to “just get up,” you can still clip into the furniture. Face the table, wait for the prompt, then walk back to the till.
HotFix 1.4.5: stuck in battle, duplicated cards
On 9 March 2026 the studio shipped Demo HotFix v1.4.5. Two lines on that note matter here:
- Several cases where players could get stuck in a card battle without being able to exit were fixed.
- Card duplication on the display stand was fixed.
If you are still stuck in a match with no exit, update the demo before you assume the table is cursed. If a display stand is cloning cards, that is the same hotfix family — do not “farm” it, and do not build a money plan on a dupe. Money still comes from sell-through, not from a physics bug.
The same patch also touched register exact change, freezes, colliders, shelves that would not move, and scan failures. If your session feels haunted, read the dated list on demo patch history rather than rearranging the table for an hour.
Earlier, HotFix 1.4.2 / 1.4.3 (26 February 2026) mentioned freeze-in-combat testing while they reworked server creation. Co-op duels need a lobby that actually exists. If create/join still fails, that is a host problem first, a deck problem second.
Controls at the table
The interaction model is the same first-person body as the rest of the shop. You walk up, highlight, sit or start, pick cards with the same mouse that seats a figure. Fine aim matters: tiny card portraits punish a high look sensitivity the same way a narrow riser does.
Do not start a match with a box in your hands. Do not start a match while a guest is mid-scan. Do not start a match on a public lobby if you have not agreed who owns the till. Save before a long duel if you are about to experiment with a nine-card pile you do not understand.
When 1.0 lands, tournaments should plug this minigame into popularity. Until then, a win at the table is a good story. A hole in the manga run is a bad night. Play the cards. Staff the shop.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for demo players and launch-day shopkeepers.
How do I start a card battle in the Anime Shop Simulator demo?
Buy and place a game table, fill a deck from kept cards, then interact with the table in a lull. Unlock order is shown in demo playthroughs and on TCG cards.
What do city, sky, and grass types mean?
They are a demo-era type triangle reported in playtests. Grass, city, and sky show advantage prompts in current builds. Names and counts can still change before 11 September 2026.
Should I leave the register to duel a customer?
Not if anyone is in line. Solo players should concede when a guest walks in. In co-op, bind the till to one person — see co-op roles.
I cannot exit a card battle. Is that a feature?
No. HotFix 1.4.5 (9 March 2026) fixed several stuck-in-battle exits. Update the demo, then check patch history.
Cards are duplicating on my display stand. Can I sell the extras?
That was a bug 1.4.5 addressed. Do not build a profit plan on dupes. Update, then sell honestly from stock you ordered.
Can I play the TCG against friends in co-op?
Yes — Steam pitches PvP between partners. Two can duel if two still run the shop. Controls for sitting and leaving are on shop controls.
